Eastern Travels - A Plotted Route

San Antonio to Charleston

I could make multiple small, smatterings of a post here and a post there but that would end up being not very chronological. So instead of that I'm going to right here organize my journey across the northern portion of a deep Southern United States, down into Charleston, South Carolina.

I started, of course, by leaving San Antonio, where I have my apartment. Lovely city, haven't said enough nice things about it but I miss it already. Good food. I should write in my blog about life on the daily more often. Hey, it's global medium! We've come so far ...

Just noticed something; caught myself. This was supposed to be about pictures, not words. But just like most of my thoughts that train this way I end up chattering more than presenting. So without further ado:

She doesn't want me to go! =(((

What a sweet face!

My Nandie! Wants to come with, even riding in a box. (Very Sad!)

Nanie-Surprise!

Oil Painted Cøat
Maybe I will do some work in Picasa on this.

This is how I started my trip.
Thanks Aunt Tamara!

Packed extremely well. I can see out the back very nicely, well
balanced, useful boxes, and beer -- for the destination!

I actually could/should list all of the items I took with me. Doing so might help in the future when I go on a trip of similar duration. In any case, I wish I would have mirrored the entire packing job across the horizontal axis. (That means putting everything that's on the right on the left and more importantly everything on the left side on the right.) Why 'importantly?' Well, looking over my right shoulder when changing lanes--something I know I should not do 'cause it takes my eyes off the road for too long--to glance though the window in the right rear corner panel was an issue. See that big white clothes basket? Well it's squarely blocking my view. (I suppose if I would have driven with it like that for the past year or so my bad driving habit could be broken.) The idea is, so I'm told, when wanting to switch lanes you ought to lean forward and peer out the side mirrors. This enables you to not waste time disorienting yourself by swiveling your head around to crane over the neck. I see the reasoning behind this, thus my consideration. Yeah, so that was a minor regret throughout the trip ... and I stress minor.

My close-up snap of a giant army tank!
Flying down the road, posing for my camara.
WEEEEE!

Not exactly "Welcome to Arkansas!" But picture worthy for the highway enthusiast in me.

This logo looks pleasantly familiar.

I wonder what the Interstate architects were thinking when they did such cool designs.
Why didn't they run with this idea?

Never knew it existed. Should've guessed.

Thought of making my mom a map with this as a way-point ...

to a destination of here. =)

Can you believe I scarfed this down in about 12 minutes?
Didn't want to keep them open past ten. Me: Best customer. Ever.

I think this is Little Rock off in the distance.

Breakfast.
Now this was just disappointing. I had high hopes of finding a delicious, small-town diner for breakfast. No luck. After leaving Benton, AR, there's not much choice. Words of warning.
HOWEVER, Daylight Donuts has a happy, cute Sun and cheery blue and yellow colors. Totally redeemed the situation and I got the last two plain donuts. =)

Got a picture of the sign! Video follows, just not here.

This is not the Mississippi River.

Knoxville, Tennessee.
South of it, anyway.

After perusing the photos, geolocations and timestamps I do
believe this in Tennessee. Doesn't look it!

To bright for bed, too worn to go out.

Betcha never had one of these before! Must be an Arkansas thing.

I can dig it.

Apropos, don'tcha know?

Cruisin' USA
"Now Updated for Platform Reality!"

Climbing high into the Smoky Mountains.

Noteworthy: Elevation of over 2200 ft.

Downtown Asheville, North Carolina.

Ate lunch at the Mellow Mushroom there in Asheville.

I was hungry, and their pizza is tasty! Nice selection of beer, too.

Lots of pretty colors.

Finally found a place to park!

Down from the mountains and into the rollings hills of South Carolina,
slowly quickly descending towards the Atlantic coastal town of Charleston.

Seriously rolling.

And very straight.

100 miles to go now! =)
